It’s that time again! Time for another Indie Book Connect unboxing!! This month included some cool items. The first item I pulled out of the box was this book pictured above. It’s The Unfinished by Jonathan Myers. Here is the back cover blurb as provided by Goodreads:

This was not his forte. Dean is used to being invisible using poisons and chemicals, not one-on- one contact with people.

Dean just hopes he can pull this off to get close to her.

As the sun of the Siberian planes rises, Dean has escaped from the clutches of the USSR. After thirty years of a new life he made for himself in the New Mexican Planes, Dean is thrown back into the life of espionage and finds the lines of loyalty and betrayal get crossed.

His only goal is to set the unfinished business at hand– -by any means necessary, even if it means that Dean has to use his specialty craft of being the chemist. As Dean travels across continents to finish things and to put things straight, he finds himself in unfamiliar territory. He then discovers a whole new meaning to family.”

This book is signed and inside the book was a neat poster advertising the second book in this series. The book retails for $12.99 USD on Amazon for paperback and it is free on Kindle Unlimited.

The second book I pulled out of the box was this beautiful book! It’s Rise by Luis Almonte. Here is the back cover blurb as provided by Goodreads:

Fifteen-year- old high school sophomore Alexia Wick is an ordinary girl, with extraordinary abilities. She attends the prestigious South Haven Academy for the Gifted and Talented, but unknown to the other students, she is an Alerium witch. The daughter of a High Priest and Priestess, Alexia must learn to navigate the pressures of high school, all while preparing for one of the biggest competitions of her life- the Annual Trials.

Skill, stamina, and loyalty will all be tested in Rise, the first installment of the Trifecta Series. In this debut contemporary fantasy novel, magic gets real as Alexia trains for the Annual Trials, which pits teen against teen, by focusing on her craft and pushing her magic and spell casting abilities to their absolute limit. When the handsome and confident Kaleb moves into town, he offers Alexia a welcome distraction from the Trials, but a dark secret could soon tear them apart. In the trials arena, friendships will be put to the test, fears will be confronted head-on, and powerful spells will be unleashed.

When Alexia is confronted with the ultimate game of chance, and is torn between her first real love and the allegiance that binds her to her coven, will she buckle under the weight of the pressure … or will she rise to the challenge?”

The book is signed and retails for $12.99 USD on Amazon for paperback and for $2.99 USD on Amazon for Kindle. Inside the book was a newsletter from the author, which was cool since it stated that the book was being turned into a TV script and was being shopped around! How cool is that?!

The box also included nice drink themed bookmarks. I received a mixed cocktail bookmark and I know I’ve seen another rep (@hlrobertsofficial, check them out on Instagram!) who received a Sprite bookmark. The book also included a little card with a quote from Stephen King with a reminder to review the books you read to help out the author and a little card that directs people to the company’s Goodreads book club!

Verdict: This box was absolutely cool! I love receiving signed books and I love helping out indie authors, so this is the perfect subscription box for me. Since both of the books both retailed for about $13.00 USD then this box is really a steal. You not only receive two autographed books, which would total well over $20.00 USD in retail stores, but you also receive a cute, whimsical bookmark. While the box is a bit pricey for non-USA residents I feel this box is an amazing adventure into the world of indie authors. Some of the best books I’ve read this year have been wrote by indie authors, so I highly suggest at least trying this box out for one month. If you choose to do so, I have a coupon code for you! Use POPTHEBUTTERFLY at time of check-out for 10% off your purchase! Happy buying!
