So the first thing I pulled out of the box was the theme card which details all of the items in the box. I used this helpful item to help me write this review because there were SO MANY items in the box!
One of these things that really sold me on buying this box is that the box has Sherlock Holmes merch and I love Sherlock anything. One of the Sherlock items that really blew me away was the Sherlock inspired ribbon bookmark by MarkedBooks on Etsy (@marked.books)! It has this beautiful design, but it will unclasp to show a magnifying glass on the inside! Perfect for those small prints in books sometimes. The other Sherlock inspired items included a Sherlock Holmes magnet (maker unknown), a beautiful Sherlock Holmes inspired necklace with the quote “I am an omnivorous reader with a strangely retentive memory for trifles” by Sir Author Conan Doyle, and TWO magnetic Sherlock inspired bookmarks! The bookmarks come from WeTheDreamingDesigns on Etsy (@sheofthedreaming, @wethedreamingdesigns). I absolutely fell in love with these bookmarks because one was classic Sherlock and one was BBC Sherlock!
On top of all the Sherlock swag there was also some author swag. Author Lannie Sheridan (@lanniesheridan22) signed an amazingly cool looking art print and there are two bookmarks from her books. I’m not sure what the connection is with this box. The book is sci-fi/fantasy themed whereas this book is detectives and spies themed. The book does sound amazing though and here is the back cover blurb of the first book and please check out her Instagram page or her other social media sites:
Princess Amirilla VI of Mercury, known as Rilla to her friends and family, is the eldest daughter of the royal family. After losing her older brother, Amdis, five years previous, it’s now time for her to take her place as a general in the Intergalactic Court. Everything seems to be going according to plan, that is until Rilla starts having strange dreams of the past and visons that she can’t remember clearly. Like her mother, Rilla has what’s known as oracle blood, which gives her visions or premonitions of the future. Add in family troubles and political issues that come with her new role as a general and Rilla has her hands full. With time growing short, can Rilla remember her visions and discover what they’re trying to warn her of before it’s too late?
Some of the other items in the book were a harry potter inspired origami heart magnet set by CreevysCupboard on Etsy, a cute little print with a TBR list print on the back from an unknown source, a Nancy Drew double sided bookmark from an unknown source, and Pretty Little Liars inspired “bookstagram confetti” handmade from Pretty Little Liars books from an unknown source.
Lastly I found the book for this month: The Love Interest, which is a spy novel, a signed bookplate, an author letter, and a bookmark for this book. Here is a back cover blurb for the book, but let me warn you that the book is not what it seems but it definitely will be a must-read for me:
There is a secret organization that cultivates teenage spies. The agents are called Love Interests because getting close to people destined for great power means getting valuable secrets.
Caden is a Nice: The boy next door, sculpted to physical perfection. Dylan is a Bad: The brooding, dark-souled guy, and dangerously handsome. The girl they are competing for is important to the organization, and each boy will pursue her. Will she choose a Nice or the Bad?
Both Caden and Dylan are living in the outside world for the first time. They are well-trained and at the top of their games. They have to be – whoever the girl doesn’t choose will die.
What the boys don’t expect are feelings that are outside of their training. Feelings that could kill them both.
Verdict: Let me just start that from the moment I opened this box I was blown away. I didn’t think such a small box could contain so many items!! I thought the company did an amazing job obtaining so many items for this box and I really feel like I got a huge bang for my buck… however…. I feel that some of the items in this box don’t really seem to go with the theme, like the Harry Potter items and the author swag for a sci-fi/fantasy novel. I also feel that the theme was a bit too broad for the book from what I know about it and that the box relied too much on detective items rather than spy items. I feel that while just a Spy theme would have been hard to find items for that it would have made the box feel a bit more in tune with the book. Also, just two little pet peeves of mine, the theme card with a description of the items missed an item (the Pretty Little Liars bookstagram confetti) and the bookmark for the book was not in the book packet at the bottom of the box with the rest of the items, which spoiled the surprise for me a little bit. Overall I really enjoyed this box and I loved all the goodies I got, especially the beautiful bookmark charm and necklace! I think this box is definitely worth the money and the next month’s box sounds so interesting! It’s Mansions and Manors. Go order it now before they’re out!
